The autonomous non-profit educational organization "Northwestern Open Technical University" (ANO VO "NWTU") was organized on 02/24/2012, registered by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg.
In 2014, Northwestern Open Technical University was ranked among the top 10 higher education institutions in the Northwestern Federal District.
In 2015, Northwestern Open Technical University became a full member of the Association of Non-Profit Higher Educational Institutions of Russia In 2017 According to the results of an independent assessment of the quality of educational activities of organizations, NWTU entered the TOP 40 of the best non-governmental universities in Russia.

A short history: The Northwestern State Correspondence Technical University traces its history back to the Central Branch Correspondence Mechanical Technical University (higher technical educational institution), founded in 1930. In 1957, the university was transformed into the Northwestern Correspondence Polytechnic Institute (NWPI), and in 2000 it received the status of a university and its current name. On 02/24/2012, NWTU was reorganized into the format of ANO HE (into a private University).
